“Pervert!”

Su Wuji looked down at himself, furious.

“Hey, I’m covering myself with my hands here, can you even see a damn thing?”

…Well, she could see a little hair.

Su Wuji felt a strange mix of grief and indignation.

A woman had barged into his room, judged the state of his development, and critiqued him like a public spectacle. It was an outrage to both gods and men, and yet, all he could think of was,

Not bad. Can I get a few more like her, same quality?

Jiang Wanxing strolled in, settled herself on the sofa as though it were her own, and watched him with a teasing half-smile.

“Let me reintroduce myself. My name is Jiang Wanxing. I serve in the Capital Military District. As for my current unit… forget it, that’s far too classified for now. What I can tell you is that my duty is to protect our homeland from threats that emerge out of the Dark Night Dimension.”

As for what the Dark Night Dimension was—she offered no explanation.

“So you barged into my room while I was showering,” Su Wuji snapped, “just to deliver a half-baked self-introduction?”

Jiang Wanxing drew a pistol from her jacket, raised it, aimed casually at his most vulnerable spot, then placed it back on the sofa.

“I’ve already come clean with Boss Su. Don’t you think you should be honest with me about who you really are?”

“What’s there to confess?” Su Wuji covered his lower stomach, straightened his waist, and shot back, “And if you point a gun at me, you think I won’t point one back at you?”

I’ve got a gun too. Always on me.

And my barrel’s more flexible than your handgun—adjustable, even. Hell, I can even snipe with it.

Hunching over, he leapt onto the bed, yanked the quilt up to his chest, and finally felt a shred of security.

Jiang Wanxing watched his performance in silence for a full minute before speaking again.

“Why were you there? Why did you just happen to run into Dukaro’s hunter? It’s too much of a coincidence. Almost impossible.”

Her words sounded less like an interrogation and more like she was puzzling aloud.

“You’re insane! If you hadn’t stolen my car, how the hell would I have ended up there?” Su Wuji barked. “And now someone’s dead because of it—I’ve never even killed a chicken in my life!”

Hearing that, Jiang Wanxing only shook her head and smiled faintly.

“Then why did I smell gunpowder on you?”

“What gunpowder?” Su Wuji retorted. “Don’t go flinging dirty water at me.”

“That scent—guns, bullets, powder. I’ve fired thousands of rounds; I can’t mistake it.”

“Say what you want. I don’t know a damn thing.” Su Wuji sneered. “If you want to frame me, you’ll need evidence.”

“Your room reeks of shower gel. The clothes you wore today are already in the washer. Even if there had been traces of gunpowder, they’re long gone. I can’t prove anything.”

“Then why the hell are you talking?” Su Wuji snapped. “I’ve got OCD. I wash my clothes daily. Is that a crime?”

Her tone shifted suddenly.

“Are you with the Western Dark World?”

The question landed out of nowhere.

“Never even heard of that crap.” Su Wuji scoffed. “But plenty of people call me a gangster. Maybe that counts as ‘dark world’? Happy with that answer?”

Clearly, not the answer she wanted.

“Before I came to Linzhou, I thought the owner of the Empress Bar was just a gangster, using dirty tricks to snatch the Oriental Beauty Club. But now… my opinion’s changed.”

She shook her head slightly.

Not a single flicker of a lie showed on his face.

Every micro-expression-reading trick she knew—the ones that exposed lies—were useless against him.

“You’re really not here for the Oriental Beauty Club?” Su Wuji asked.

“I’m a soldier. I shouldn’t meddle in business, least of all nightlife business.” Jiang Wanxing replied. “I came to Linzhou just to watch a show.”

“A show?” Su Wuji frowned.

“Bai Xuyang is my childhood friend, and he’s one of the shareholders behind Oriental Beauty. I wanted to see how you’d deal with him.” Her lips curved faintly. “But now… I think this play will be far more exciting than I imagined.”

Jiang Wanxing had faced countless enemies, yet she couldn’t see through this man at all.

Getting nothing out of him, her interest waned. She simply lay down on the sofa.

Su Wuji gawked. “Hey—what the hell are you doing?”

“No place to stay in Linzhou. I’ll be borrowing your room for a few days.” She tipped her cap over her eyes and gestured lazily toward a luggage bag.

“We close? Since when? We’re not at the ‘sharing a room’ level!” Su Wuji nearly went mad.

“Comrades-in-arms, aren’t we?” Jiang Wanxing said bluntly. “If I want to see through you, I’ll need to stay close.”

“Comrades my ass! That’s all in your head!”

But she ignored him. Her breathing slowed, steady, as though she’d already fallen asleep.

Su Wuji wanted nothing more than to throw this so-called special forces woman out. If this clingy beauty kept plastering herself to him, he’d never get anything done!

Hell, even jerking off would be inconvenient!

And right then— Bang!

The last thing he wanted happened—

Xiao Pang barged in.

“How many times have I told you, knock before entering!” Su Wuji exploded. “Don’t you see there’s a woman in here?”

Xiao Pang glanced at Jiang Wanxing, still lying on her side. “I see her. She’s pretty.”

“She’s covering her face with a hat! Which eye of yours sees she’s pretty?”

“My mom told me—women who can bear sons are always pretty,” Xiao Pang replied seriously.

Su Wuji glanced at Jiang Wanxing’s hips. “Your mom’s wrong. Big hips don’t guarantee sons. It’s genetics.”

Jiang Wanxing felt his gaze heating her lower back. She sat up, expression cool.

“Tall, solid build. He your bodyguard?” she asked.

“He’s my uncle.” Su Wuji answered without missing a beat.

“??” Xiao Pang froze, thought it over, then realized Boss was joking. “Boss, I’ll wait outside. I have something to report.”

Finally, he was showing a little sense—didn’t spill everything in front of Jiang Wanxing. Clearly, he’d already pried open the mouth of that Dukaro hunter.

Su Wuji grabbed a robe and headed out.

But Jiang Wanxing rose too. “Where are you going?”

“None of your damn business. This is my turf. I go where I want.”

“Wherever you go, I’m with you.” She smiled. “You’ve offended the Dukaro Organization. They’ll retaliate. For your safety, I’ll stay close.”

Truthfully, her figure was superb, her beauty rare, with a touch of heroic spirit. But right now, Su Wuji only wanted to boot her out the door.

Xiao Pang chimed in: “Boss, she likes you.”

Su Wuji glared. “Which eye of yours sees that?”

“My mom says—when a man chases a woman, it’s like crossing a mountain. When a woman chases a man, it’s like a thin veil. If a pretty woman’s willing to pursue, it’s almost always successful.”

Su Wuji snorted. “And that’s how your mom landed your dad?”

“No. My mom says my dad liked her because she had big hips—good for bearing sons.”

That made Jiang Wanxing laugh aloud.

But when she noticed Su Wuji’s eyes once again drop to her hips, she tugged down her jacket hem, frowning.

“Xiao Pang, report to Manager Xiao. As long as I’m with this beauty, don’t disturb me.” Su Wuji ordered.

“Yes. Wishing Boss a healthy son.” Xiao Pang left.

Jiang Wanxing couldn’t help but chuckle. His bluntness wasn’t malicious, and she didn’t take offense.

“Boss Su, I’m not necessarily your enemy. Do what you want. No need to guard so hard against me.” Her words carried a subtle weight.

“Ghosts would believe that. I’ve got nothing to hide.” Su Wuji flopped back on the bed.

She stretched out again on the sofa.

“You’re not even going to shower?” Su Wuji muttered, eyeing her lithe, strong frame. “For a woman, that’s pretty unhygienic.”

Of course, he wasn’t hoping to watch her bathe.

He just wanted to slip away while she was in the bathroom.

“On missions, I’ve lived in jungles for a month at a time. Back then, the stench was unbearable. This is nothing.”

But even as she spoke, her face paled.

She pressed a hand to her stomach, sat up sharply.

Damn. Busy hunting Dukaro’s killer, I forgot today’s the day… and I didn’t prepare in advance.

She shot him a quick glance, grabbed her luggage, and bolted into the bathroom.

Su Wuji eyed the spot where she’d been sitting and cursed.

“You owe me a sofa!”
