“You’re extorting me!”

Jiang Wanxing stood opposite Su Wuji, seething. “Three hundred and fifty thousand? How could your sofa possibly be that expensive?”

Su Wuji pulled up a picture from the official website. “Take a good look. Isn’t it exactly the same? It’s an import from Italy!”

“Can’t I just wash it for you?” Jiang Wanxing clenched her fists.

She compared the pictures. Seeing that the price and style were identical, she wilted instantly.

She didn’t know if it was because her physique was too good, but the flow she got each time far exceeded other girls. It was practically a haemorrhage.

She washed herself clean in the bathroom, taking over an hour before she finally came out.

Jiang Wanxing had changed into a pair of loose long pants, no longer wearing her tight-fitting athletic shorts. She had also washed her soiled clothes right there and hung them in Su Wuji’s bathroom to dry.

The one closest to her skin was no exception.

If she weren’t still thinking about her case, Major Jiang would have already crawled into a hole to hide from the embarrassment.

Su Wuji let out a cold laugh. “Do you think you can get it clean? The outer layer of this sofa is cashmere. Your blood has soaked all the way through!”

Indeed, that large patch of deep crimson was quite noticeable. It was impossible to wash out.

The inner core must have been stained as well.

In moments like this, Jiang Wanxing desperately wished she weren’t a woman.

“Three hundred and fifty thousand is just too much. Did someone rip you off? This sofa isn’t even that comfortable to sit on.” Jiang Wanxing’s voice lacked confidence.

It wasn’t that she had no savings. Her maternal grandmother’s family, the Fangs, were extremely wealthy. But ever since her parents passed away, Jiang Wanxing had never taken a single penny from her grandmother’s side of the family.

Her materialistic desires were low. The military provided food and lodging, and she lived well enough on her monthly salary alone. This was in stark contrast to her younger brother, who drove a G-Class Mercedes.

If her aunt Fang Qianxue were here, she would have pulled out her phone and scanned to pay without a moment’s hesitation. For Fang Qianxue, even frowning would be a sign of disrespect to her own wealth.

But Jiang Wanxing truly did not want to spend other people’s money.

“I own several bars. With all that money, why would I buy a cheap, low-quality sofa? Major Jiang, if you’re going to try and renege, at least come up with a credible excuse,” Su Wuji sneered.

“I… I’m not trying to renege.” A stubborn look crossed Jiang Wanxing’s face. “I never thought of it.”

Su Wuji chuckled. “How about this? I’ve used this sofa for a few months now, so I’ll give you a discount. Three hundred and twenty thousand will be fine.”

Jiang Wanxing opened her phone and checked her savings. It wasn’t that she didn’t have enough, but spending such a large sum on this stupid incident would really take a serious hit to her finances. Mentally, she felt incredibly wronged.

But Jiang Wanxing understood the principle that you had to pay for what you broke.

“Three hundred thousand. I can’t go any lower,” Su Wuji said, seeing her fall silent. “I wouldn’t want people to say I bullied a woman.”

Jiang Wanxing pursed her lips. After thinking for a long time, she finally said, a little embarrassed, “I have a fifteen-day vacation. During these fifteen days, I’ll be your bodyguard to pay off the debt. How about that?”

Hearing this, Su Wuji almost jumped in shock.

“Hey, forget being a bodyguard for ten-plus days! Even if you were my girlfriend for a year, you wouldn’t be worth three hundred thousand!”

“You scoundrel! Why am I not worth three hundred thousand?” Jiang Wanxing was equally annoyed. “If I put the word out that I’d be someone’s girlfriend for a year, those men would…”

As she spoke, she caught Su Wuji’s teasing gaze. Realising that she had lost her composure out of anger, she immediately fell silent.

Su Wuji said with a cheerful laugh, “Then you can be my girlfriend for a year, and I won’t make you pay for the damages.”

“You…”

Jiang Wanxing was furious. She didn’t want to pay, and there was no way she would ever be Su Wuji’s girlfriend.

She had initially come to investigate the case, thinking she would hold the initiative tonight, but this damned period had ruined everything!

What a wretched relative!

In truth, when dealing with a scoundrel, having too high a moral standard would only lead to a loss.

Just like now, if Jiang Wanxing hadn’t been so insistent on paying, and had just refused to, she wouldn’t be in this predicament.

“Fine, I’ll pay.”

Jiang Wanxing stamped her foot. “I’ll transfer the money to you after I return to the capital. To prevent me from backing out, you can keep me by your side until then.”

Good heavens.

Su Wuji’s eyes widened. “Keep you by my side? Major Jiang, you’ve got some nerve.”

Jiang Wanxing scoffed. “Heh, I guess it’s all thanks to the teachings of Boss Su.”

Su Wuji said, “To prevent you from reneging, give me a twenty-thousand deposit first.”

“Fine, I’ll give it to you.” Thinking that this was all to find the whereabouts of that sniper, Jiang Wanxing gritted her teeth. “Add me on WeChat, and I’ll transfer the money.”

Twenty thousand was much easier to stomach than three hundred thousand.

Su Wuji opened his friend request screen. “Here, this is my secondary account. Add me.”

“I want to add your main account,” Jiang Wanxing said.

“The main account is a no-go. The secondary account is strictly for flirting. Add it or don’t,” Su Wuji said, clearly sure that Jiang Wanxing wouldn’t leave.

“Fine,” Jiang Wanxing said, resigned, scanning the QR code. The moment she saw the name, her face was filled with disgust. “Your name is disgusting! Who would name themselves something like that on WeChat?”

Su Wuji’s face was a picture of innocence. “What’s disgusting about it? I like eating this flavour of crispy rice.”

This guy’s secondary account name was… Turkey-Flavoured Crispy Rice.

It was only then that Jiang Wanxing realised she had misread it.

She stamped her foot. “You did that on purpose!”

Su Wuji sneered. “Heh, it’s you who has a dirty mind!”

Jiang Wanxing found herself with no comeback.

How did I get tangled up with such a weirdo?

Not only was this a huge embarrassment, but she felt like she could lose it at any second!

She had faced countless vicious enemies before, but none had ever left her feeling this powerless!

“The twenty-thousand deposit has been transferred!” Jiang Wanxing said. “I’ll stay by your side for a few days, and when I return to the capital, I’ll transfer the remaining two hundred and eighty thousand.”

After handing over twenty thousand, Jiang Wanxing finally felt like she had some leverage in the conversation.

Su Wuji took the money, then called Xiao Yinlei. “You and Xiao Pang come to my room and carry this sofa out. Throw it away.”

Xiao Yinlei already knew that an unwelcome guest had arrived in the boss’s room.

In fact, while Jiang Wanxing was in the bathroom, washing herself and changing her pants, Su Wuji had already told her everything that had happened.

At Xiao Yinlei’s direction, the captive from the Dukaro organisation had already been moved, and Xu Jiayan would not show her face until her wounds healed.

The moment Xiao Yinlei and Xiao Pang entered Su Wuji’s room, they were startled by the patch of red on the sofa.

Being a woman herself, she naturally understood how terrifying that amount was.

Xiao Yinlei hesitated for a moment, then asked, “Miss Jiang, would you like me to make you some yam, red date, and black rice porridge?”

“Thank you, but I’m not hungry,” Jiang Wanxing said.

She was full from all the anger.

“It’s not that I’m afraid you’re hungry,” Xiao Yinlei said with a genuinely concerned expression. “It’s to help replenish your blood.”

“Ah? No need…” Jiang Wanxing’s brain caught up, and she instantly died of embarrassment, her face turning bright red.

The blush on her face was just as deep as her posterior had been an hour ago.

Su Wuji was on the bed, laughing so hard his stomach hurt.

Jiang Wanxing suddenly wanted to silence this guy for good.

Why was I so dedicated? Why was I sticking to a man late at night to investigate a case? Otherwise, I wouldn’t have lost so much money! I wouldn’t have been socially dead!

At that moment, Xiao Pang walked in. He looked at the blood-stained sofa, then looked at the robust-looking Jiang Wanxing, and asked very seriously, “Miss Jiang, are you hurt?”

“Hahahahaha!” Su Wuji laughed so hard that tears streamed down his face.

Jiang Wanxing wanted to ram her head into a wall and die.

Xiao Pang was still standing there, waiting for an answer.

Su Wuji finally managed to stop laughing. “Miss Jiang isn’t hurt.”

Xiao Pang was confused. “Then why is there so much blood? The wound looks pretty big.”

Jiang Wanxing: “…”

She felt like it would be better to jump off a building.

Xiao Yinlei covered her mouth and chuckled. “Xiao Pang, take the sofa out. We’ll go buy a new one tomorrow.”

With a single hand, Xiao Pang lifted the blood-stained sofa.

But just as he was about to leave, he asked a question. “Boss, are we buying another one of these eight-hundred-dollar knockoff sofas tomorrow?”

“Eight hundred dollars? A knockoff?”

Jiang Wanxing froze.

The room instantly filled with killing intent!

“You asked me for three hundred thousand for an eight-hundred-dollar sofa! You scoundrel!”

Su Wuji gave a sheepish smile. “Well, I only took a twenty-thousand-dollar deposit. I won’t ask for the rest, how about that?”

The next second, Jiang Wanxing leapt onto the bed, straddling Su Wuji’s waist, and started strangling him. “Give me back the money! Or I’ll choke you to death!”

NOTES

Dà yí mā : Literally “big aunt,” this is a common and humorous euphemism for a menstrual period. It’s a key joke in this chapter.
