After the massive operation, there was an enormous amount of work to be done: searching, capturing, interrogating, recording statements, and helping the children find their parents.

Moreover, given how large the Xiyang Town trafficking syndicate had grown, it was difficult to say that they hadn’t received help from forces outside the country.

Jiang Wanxing kept her word and took responsibility for all the post-incident explanations. The Linjiang Provincial Department did not make things difficult for Su Wuji, but the cleanup work at the site still took two days and two nights.

Due to the deployment of all their best people, Empress Bar was closed for two full days. For such a popular nightclub, the losses from even one day of closure were unimaginable, yet Su Wuji was willing to bear the cost just to catch Sister Fen, Jiang Wanxing noticed all of this.

As the two dozen or so Empress vehicles began their return trip, Su Wuji’s subordinates, although physically exhausted, were all beaming. Many of them had been wounded, some even with gunshot wounds, but it didn’t affect their good mood in the slightest. After all, taking down the human trafficking den in Xiyang Town and capturing the heinous Sister Fen was truly a great deed.

Jiang Wanxing hadn’t said much throughout the journey. She appeared to be resting with her eyes closed but was completely wide awake. She had participated in countless missions to eliminate enemies, and while the danger level of capturing Sister Fen wasn’t the highest, it was the one that shook her the most. The scenes of the girls expressing their endless gratitude, and the parents of the rescued children kneeling and weeping with joy, continued to profoundly impact her.

Jiang Wanxing glanced at the man sitting next to her, and her sense of shock deepened. Just before they got into the car, Linjiang Satellite TV contacted the head of the Provincial Department to get details on the operation to capture Sister Fen. However, the official didn’t step forward to be interviewed immediately; instead, he chose to introduce Su Wuji to the TV reporter. Clearly, their relationship was not a distant one. Yet, faced with such a desirable opportunity for publicity, which many people could only dream of, Su Wuji outright refused.

“What are you thinking about?” Su Wuji caught Jiang Wanxing’s eye, completing a mutual gaze. “Staring at me secretly? Have you been captivated by my profile?”

Jiang Wanxing said, “Why didn’t you agree to the interview? Trying to hide your merit and fame?”

“The host was a woman,” Su Wuji grinned. “I was afraid she’d fall in love with me.”

Jiang Wanxing didn’t believe that ridiculous excuse. “She’s the top host for Linjiang Satellite TV. Countless people want to be interviewed by her and don’t get the chance.”

Su Wuji looked outside. “The rest stop is ahead. Let’s pull over and take a break. I need to wash my face.”

Jiang Wanxing also needed to use the restroom.

“Right, you’ve been busy for two days, and I was worried you wouldn’t have enough supplies on hand, so I had someone buy these for you before we left,” Su Wuji said, pulling a large green reusable bag from the trunk and placing it in Jiang Wanxing’s lap.

“What did you buy?” Jiang Wanxing asked, opening the bulging eco-bag.

Inside was a massive collection of sanitary products from various brands! Day use, night use, and even adult diapers…

Jiang Wanxing’s pretty face immediately turned bright red. The awkward memory of staining the sofa flashed in her mind. Despite her extreme embarrassment, Jiang Wanxing remained polite. “Thank… thank you.”

“Don’t mention it. I mainly didn’t want you to dirty my car,” Su Wuji said.

When Jiang Wanxing heard that, she felt like strangling Su Wuji. She immediately reached out and clutched his neck. “You still haven’t paid me back!” I wasn’t even going to make you pay after you caught the traffickers; you had to bring it up again?

Su Wuji laughed heartily while choking. “Major Jiang, you really have a great figure.”

It was then that Jiang Wanxing realized that to choke Su Wuji, half her body was pressed against him. Her thighs and chest were practically plastered against his! Jiang Wanxing immediately sat back in her seat, blushing slightly and remaining silent.

When the car reached the rest stop and pulled over, before Jiang Wanxing could even reach the restroom, her phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, her childhood friend, Bai Xuyang.

Oh no, I completely forgot about him. Jiang Wanxing’s heart sank. She had originally come to Linzhou with the intention of watching the tigers fight from the mountain, and she didn’t care whether Bai Xuyang or Su Wuji won. However, after two days of deeper interaction with Su Wuji, she genuinely didn’t want to see this conflict happen!

“Wanxing, I’ve already arrived in Linzhou,” Bai Xuyang said. “I’m with Haobing right now. I heard he got beaten up by that guy named Su. Good thing I’m here. I’ll get him back for everything.”

Hearing that her useless younger brother was there too, black lines appeared on Jiang Wanxing’s forehead. Her expression immediately became more serious. “Bai Xuyang, put Jiang Haobing on the phone.”

As a childhood friend who had grown up with her, Bai Xuyang instinctively felt that Jiang Wanxing’s tone was off.

He handed the phone to Jiang Haobing, who said, “Sis, Brother Xuyang is here to avenge me! That guy surnamed Su is dead! When will you get here?”

Jiang Wanxing looked over at Su Wuji, who was a few meters away, leaning over a sink, washing the dust off his face. “Jiang Haobing, effective immediately, return your G-Wagon to Auntie. If you keep acting so arrogantly, you’ll ruin Mom and Dad’s reputation,” Jiang Wanxing said sternly.

Jiang Haobing froze. “Sis, what are you saying? I’m the one who got beaten up! You won’t avenge me, but you’re criticizing me?”

Jiang Wanxing’s tone became harsher. “In the past, I always thought that since Mom and Dad were gone, it was fine for Grandma and the others to spoil you, but you’re an adult now. You shouldn’t be so ungrateful.”

Bai Xuyang took the phone back. “Wanxing, Haobing is still our little brother. He was beaten up by a guy named Su, and my business was stolen by this guy. Being stepped on by some Linzhou kid like this is shameful for us from the Capital’s compounds. People will laugh at us if word gets out.”

Jiang Wanxing’s voice turned cold. “Bai Xuyang, do you and Jiang Haobing still remember that you’re compound children?”

Hearing that, Bai Xuyang was stunned. “Wanxing, what do you mean?”

“Bai Xuyang,” Jiang Wanxing said very seriously. “Don’t take Jiang Haobing to mess around. Otherwise, I won’t forgive either of you.”

In that moment, the aura of the “big sister” of the compound was back. Bai Xuyang seemed to have lost face. “Fine, we’ll talk when I see you, but I’ve suffered significant losses. I have to get some revenge, at least.” With that, he actually hung up the phone.

A bad premonition arose in Jiang Wanxing’s heart.

Su Wuji had finished washing his face and said cheerfully, “Why the serious face? Are you having a recurrence?”

Jiang Wanxing glared at him. “Mention that again and I’ll choke you…”

She then turned and walked toward the restroom, still clutching the package of “vampire catchers” Su Wuji had bought her.

Just as Jiang Wanxing emerged, her phone chimed again. A message notification showed a transfer had been received! Two hundred thousand!

“Hey, I thought you weren’t going to pay me back?” Jiang Wanxing caught up to Su Wuji. “What, a change of heart? You didn’t even deduct the eight hundred yuan for the sofa?”

“No big deal. When I thought about how low your salary is, I just couldn’t bear it.” Su Wuji patted Jiang Wanxing’s shoulder. “With that little bit of money, you should transfer out of the military sooner and come serve drinks at my bar.”

He then walked toward the car first. That self-proclaimed handsome, showy back was still in Jiang Wanxing’s sight.

Xiao Pang just happened to walk past Jiang Wanxing and chimed in, “The boss didn’t say that just now.”

“Oh?” Jiang Wanxing asked, annoyed. “Then what did your boss say?”

Xiao Pang quoted him verbatim: “That money was earned by Major Jiang risking her life for the country. Anyone who tries to swindle her out of money is a bastard.”

It was a good thing Su Wuji didn’t hear that, or he’d have Xiao Yinlei deduct Xiao Pang’s salary for the year after next!

Jiang Wanxing was slightly stunned. She said to Xiao Pang, “Your boss doesn’t seem like such a kind person.”

Xiao Pang’s reply was earnest. “The finance department often says that the boss has a good heart, just a bad mouth.”

Jiang Wanxing couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re right. He’s a good person, he just happens to have such a terrible mouth.”

As she was laughing, she felt a slight warmth in the corners of her eyes, so she gently rubbed them.

Xiao Pang: “Major Jiang, you’re crying.”

Jiang Wanxing: “I never cry.”

Xiao Pang: “Your eyes are all red.”

Jiang Wanxing: “…”

She suddenly felt like sparring with Xiao Pang.

As the motorcade neared Linzhou, Jiang Wanxing received a message from Jiang Haobing.

“Sis, Brother Xuyang has already smashed up Empress Bar to get revenge for me!”

Reading that message, Jiang Wanxing’s entire being instantly radiated murderous intent!
