The Teddy Bear Sends the Insomniac Villain to Dreamland - Chapter 09
Chapter 9
…Just what exactly happened here?
I blinked slowly while staring at Blake, who was sound asleep and breathing softly beside me.
But my confusion only lasted for a moment.
Soon enough, I silently thanked the heavens for blessing me with such a glorious sight.
Now that I looked properly, the man before me was truly breathtakingly handsome.
The first thing that caught my eye was his long eyelashes, like bars blocking out the sunlight, and the peacefully closed eyes beneath them.
Then came the tall bridge of his nose and the relaxed curve of his lips, faintly smiling in his sleep.
Overall, he had delicate, refined features.
Yesterday his gloomy atmosphere had made him seem fierce, but seeing him asleep like this…
“He’s pretty. Like an actual angel.”
Yes, “angel” suited him perfectly.
And a man like this was considered a villain?
Had all the villains in the world frozen to death or something?
‘Maybe the standards for villains are different in the human world.’
Was he considered a villain because a man that beautiful steals people’s hearts like a thief?
Or maybe—
Because his looks were blinding?
“Wow, you could go sledding down that nose bridge.”
Without thinking, I reached out and gently stroked his perfectly straight nose—
—then immediately froze.
Gasp.
“…He’s a villain because he turns me into a creepy pervert!”
Yes. That had to be it.
As I silently admired his face, I tilted my head slightly.
‘But… when exactly did I put Blake to sleep?’
I carefully retraced my memories, but the last thing I remembered from yesterday was desperately muttering the spell to stay awake.
There was no way Blake had simply fallen asleep on his own.
I already knew how badly the curse tormented him, and if he could sleep alone, he never would’ve brought me here in the first place.
Then again… maybe he was pretending to sleep?
The possibility seemed extremely unlikely, but just in case, I cautiously reached a paw beneath his nose.
Then I pinched his nostrils shut for about a minute.
Soon his brows furrowed slightly, and he shifted with a soft groan.
Hmm. So that wasn’t it either.
He really was asleep.
Now certain of that fact, I fell into another dilemma.
Then how exactly had Blake fallen asleep?
And while hugging me, no less?
But no matter how much I thought about it, I couldn’t come up with an answer.
‘Guess I accidentally held his hand in my sleep and cast the spell!’
Eventually giving up on finding an exact explanation, I decided to move on.
Whatever happened, the important thing was that I’d succeeded in making him sleep.
‘And my magic power recharged a ton!’
It was probably thanks to sleeping while cuddled up against him.
Let’s see… if I tried to estimate how much had recovered…
‘If my magic reserves were an ocean, then I’ve at least filled a puddle now?’
There was still a long way to go before it fully recovered, but the effect was undeniable.
If I kept sticking close to Blake and charging steadily like this, then sooner or later I’d be able to use proper spells again.
Maybe I’d even be able to search for a portal home.
I gazed lovingly at the peacefully sleeping Blake.
“Blake, I guess you really are my savior.”
Even if the original novel, Beloved Savior, wasn’t actually written with you as the main character.
“…Ah.”
I hadn’t spoken loudly—just whispered softly to myself.
But when I turned my head, those violet eyes were already staring at me strangely in the dim morning light.
His gaze moved sluggishly between me and the ceiling as if trying to understand the situation.
Then suddenly—
He sprang upright like a released spring and immediately scrambled off the bed.
“W-What… why was I asleep…?”
“…Good morning! Rise and shine!”
Missing the warmth of his embrace already, I rubbed my arms and cheerfully greeted him.
Though honestly, was it even morning?
The room was so heavily covered by blackout curtains that not a single ray of sunlight entered.
“Hup.”
After sleeping well, greeting the day with sunlight felt important.
Amazing. I’d only been here one day, yet the room already felt familiar.
Lightly hopping off the bed, I waved toward Blake—who still stood frozen against the wall staring blankly at me—and headed toward the curtains.
Screeeech.
The curtains opened, and brilliant sunlight immediately flooded the room.
The weather was amazing today!
Since I’d already opened the curtains, I pushed the window open too.
Creeeak.
A warm spring breeze carrying the scent of life brushed softly against my nose.
To think I was feeling a breeze like this somewhere other than the western desert.
It felt like a dream.
And apparently I wasn’t the only one who felt that way.
“…I slept.”
Blake muttered blankly, still looking unable to believe it even after standing there for so long.
Then he suddenly grabbed the bedpost and collapsed onto the edge of the mattress.
“Yep. You slept really well. Thanks to that, I slept warmly too. I really love this bed!”
“I definitely tried to throw you off the bed… so how did this…?”
The cowlick sticking up on the back of his head from sleep was adorable.
Completely unaware of it, he rolled his eyes around in confusion.
“Really? Maybe I slept spread-eagle or something. I’ll be more careful next time.”
Though honestly, with these tiny legs, it probably wouldn’t have made much difference.
“Next time don’t lie in my bed at all!”
Blake suddenly snapped.
“Don’t be stingy, Blake. The bed is huge. What’s so difficult about sharing it with one tiny teddy bear like me?”
“No, that’s not what I’m talking about.”
Realizing the conversation had drifted completely off-topic, he exhaled slowly as if trying to regain composure.
Seriously, he was ridiculously handsome.
The way he pressed at his eyes with anxious frustration gave off an oddly decadent atmosphere.
Seeing a beautiful man first thing in the morning really was wonderful.
“Did… you do this? Were you the one who made me fall asleep?”
“Hm?”
“I definitely tried to throw you off the bed. But the moment I grabbed you, you said something and then I think I… fell asleep.”
Ah. So that’s what happened.
Finally understanding the situation, I grinned proudly.
“I told you, didn’t I? I can make you sleep.”
But apparently that answer wasn’t satisfying enough.
Blake’s expression sharpened instantly.
“Tell me how you did it.”
While I hung out the open window enjoying the breeze, he suddenly grabbed me by the back of the neck.
“Hey! Let go!”
“Tell me immediately. How did you do it? No one has ever been able to lift this curse. I spent enormous amounts of money, searched ancient texts, got deceived by countless frauds—and still found nothing. So how did you manage it?”
Even though I was dangling pitifully from the scruff of my neck, I merely shrugged grandly and answered with dignity.
“That’s because I’m Vivian Holloway, the Great Witch of the West. I told you already. I’m not an ordinary witch. I’m an incredible witch.”
“So… you weren’t lying?”
“If you lie, lies always come back to you eventually. I don’t live like that.”
If I had a life philosophy, it was simple:
Never lie!
I once read a profound book saying lies create more lies, and those lies create even more lies.
It also said that if you want to earn trust, you need consistency, communication, and—
“Most importantly, sincerity. I’m not trying to deceive you. Because I like you. Gah! Why’d you suddenly drop me?!”
I crashed onto the floor with a thump and glared at him while rubbing my sore butt.
But Blake stubbornly avoided looking at me and asked flatly:
“Then… does that mean you can keep putting me to sleep from now on?”
“I don’t usually make reckless guarantees—that’s another personal philosophy of mine—but if you let me stay by your side and don’t throw me out of this mansion, then absolutely.”
“…So you could make me sleep again tonight too?”
“Of course. Ah, though I do have one request. If you give me wine, I can even help you take naps!”
Human world wine must taste amazing.
While I was busy entertaining pointless thoughts, I noticed Blake biting his lip awkwardly like he wanted to ask something else.
Tilting my head, I asked:
“What? Is there something else you want to ask? I don’t mind at all.”
“…Earlier, I heard you. You said… why you called me your sa… sa…”
“Sa… sa…?”
Watching Blake struggle like a pigeon trying to imitate sounds, I furrowed my brows seriously.
Then he abruptly turned his head away and shouted stiffly:
“…Your savior! Explain why you called me that too!”
Was it just my imagination, or were the tips of his ears slightly red?
I stared at him for a moment before casually answering:
“Oh, that! Well, when I’m around you, I feel full of energy. My magic recovers.”
Still refusing to look at me, Blake’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“I recover your magic?”
“Exactly. I already told you yesterday, but I’ll explain again. You’re a magical energy replenisher. Also called a ‘mana restoration type.’ Your power refills my magic reserves. It’s an extremely rare ability.”
“I’m not a mage or a witch. I don’t even know what that means.”
I’m just…
After a brief silence, he muttered quietly:
“A cursed human.”
“But to me, you’re special.”
A short silence followed.
And I was treated to the rare sight of Blake’s eyes widening, twisting awkwardly, while his ears trembled faintly.
Despite his expressionless face, the tips of his ears were still burning bright red.
