Chapter 10

Was being called special really that embarrassing?

What an innocent young man.

A mana-replenishment ability was an extremely rare power—something you could hardly find anywhere.

Honestly, “special” almost wasn’t enough to describe him. To me, Blake was unbelievable luck.

“You’re like a four-leaf clover. A tall, ridiculously handsome four-leaf clover. Because to me, you’re good luck.”

I looked straight into his eyes and smiled brightly.

This time, the corners of his lips twitched faintly, like he was barely stopping himself from smiling.

Interesting.

For someone who was supposed to become a twisted villain after being ruined by a curse and failing to receive the heroine’s love, he was surprisingly innocent.

‘So this is what Blake was originally like.’

She still didn’t know everything about him, but one thing she had realized was that he became unexpectedly shy whenever he received praise.

“Right now, you’re the source of my power. You’re the only one who fills me up.”

“Okay, I get it, so could you… stop moving your mouth already?”

He lifted his palm and abruptly covered her mouth.

“Mmph!”

As she squirmed and moved her lips against his large white hand, he quickly pulled it away again.

Judging by how naturally he acted, his guard seemed a little lower than yesterday.

Vivian rolled her eyes mischievously and smiled meaningfully at him.

“So, Blake. Can you trust me a little now?”

“No.”

The answer came instantly and coldly.

“Why? Do you still think I’m some sinister object created by a wizard? Or what was it again…?”

“A demonic beast.”

“Right! Do I still look like some magical beast to you?”

“…Not that. But you could still be a spy sent by another family—or a cartel hostile toward me—to kill me…”

He suddenly stopped speaking halfway through.

Apparently, even he realized it made no sense for an assassin sent to kill him to end up sprawled across his bed sleeping.

Not to mention hugging him in their sleep and greeting the morning together afterward.

“…Anyway, you’re still suspicious.”

“I told you I’m not suspicious!”

…Or was she?

Now that she thought about it, maybe witches really were suspicious beings.

Blake was someone who had never lived during the age of portals, so naturally witches were unfamiliar to him.

To him, she probably was strange, suspicious, and bizarre.

Once she cleanly accepted that fact, she actually felt much better. Crossing her arms, Vivian nodded thoughtfully.

“Come to think of it, maybe I really am suspicious. A witch sounds like something that only exists in fairy tales, right? So… are you scared of me?”

“Not at all.”

He answered while staring directly at her round little nose.

“Then do you suddenly want to kill me or something?”

“If I wanted to kill you, I would’ve done it long ago. Whether you kept rambling about being able to make me sleep or not.”

“Then why haven’t you killed me?”

“That’s…”

Knock knock.

At that moment, a light knock interrupted their smoothly flowing conversation.

“Young Master. It is Ronald. My apologies for coming so early in the morning, but I rushed here because I wanted to check if you were alright. While walking through the garden earlier, I noticed the window to your room was open…”

At those words, Blake’s gaze shifted toward the wide-open window.

He silently watched the curtains swaying gently in the breeze before slowly rising from his seat.

When he personally opened the door, a man with graying white hair—who appeared to be the butler—looked over Blake worriedly.

“I rushed over because I thought something might have happened. Since that window has never once been opened before, it seemed rather strange…”

“There’s no problem.”

“If that is the case, then I’m truly relieved.”

Ronald let out a sigh of relief before bringing up his next matter.

“Ah, and today is the day Crown Prince Edwin said he would visit personally. We received word that he will arrive shortly, so the reception room preparations have all been completed.”

“…I see.”

When the door closed again and Vivian looked back at Blake, he was already straightening his clothes.

Just moments ago he had looked shocked and overwhelmed, but his recovery speed was impressive.

After preparing himself in an instant, he glanced at her and spoke in words that sounded somewhere between a warning and advice.

“Stay quietly in the room. I need to go greet a disgusting human. After that, we’ll talk more. I need to figure out what exactly you are and where you came from.”

“Mhm, mhm.”

Wait a second. Before Blake left, she was definitely trying to tell him something.

But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t remember what it was.

“Aaaah, what was it?! I really had something to say!”

“…I told you to stay still.”

“Don’t worry about me.”

“…It’d be nice if you’d at least pretend you were going to listen.”

Even after such a short conversation, Blake still looked at her with doubtful, unconvinced eyes before disappearing from the room.

Click.

The door shut behind him, and only then did Vivian suddenly leap to her feet and smack her forehead in regret.

“I remembered!”

Blake, there’s a bird nest on your head!

She needed to tell him that, but he’d already left.

“Well, can’t be helped.”

Didn’t he say he was meeting someone important?

The graying man standing outside earlier had introduced himself, but his voice had been so quiet that she hadn’t heard properly.

Well, Blake would figure it out himself!

Surely someone would tell him eventually, right?

More importantly, now that Blake had gone out to take care of business, maybe it was time for her to prepare to leave too.

Blake’s order not to go anywhere had long since disappeared from her mind.

Blake had told her to stay put, but—

“Mm, obviously. How could I possibly stay still?!”

The weather outside was beautiful, and the human world she had returned to after two hundred years was astonishingly fresh with the arrival of spring.

Blake might not know it, but after already talking with Eren yesterday, Vivian no longer had anything to fear.

She couldn’t waste an opportunity like this!

Setting out on an adventure was a privilege reserved only for the courageous. Even if she had arrived in the human world by accident, she fully intended to enjoy herself before eventually returning home.

“Ugh… nghh… so heavy.”

Grunting, she gathered several books from the small table beside the bed and stacked about five of them near the door.

Finally, her paw could reach the doorknob.

Click.

The door slowly opened, and Vivian silently cheered in triumph as she quickly escaped the room.

***

“His Highness Crown Prince Edwin said he would arrive by nine, so there should only be about ten minutes left. I naturally assumed Young Master would already be in the reception room, but when I saw the window to your room open, I was quite startled.”

“……”

No reply came, but Ronald didn’t lose heart and continued faithfully following behind Blake as always.

The servants they passed in the hallway bowed respectfully.

Ronald was the butler who had served Blake most closely.

He had stayed by Blake’s side from his childhood—when he had been kind and cheerful—all the way to the present, where he had become the quiet and stoic heir of House Leblanc.

Because of that, there was very little Ronald didn’t know about him.

And today, he sensed an unusual liveliness in Blake’s back.

Blake’s gait, normally slow and elegant, was strangely fast today.

He even glanced behind himself several times, checking the doors they passed.

‘What is this?’

Ronald tilted his head while staring at Blake’s broad back, which somehow seemed more energetic than usual.

Mornings were always difficult for Blake.

Whenever the servants’ chatter echoed through the hallways, making it painfully obvious he had stayed awake the entire night again, Blake would begin his day with a deep sigh like always.

The concepts of “beginning” and “end” of a day simply didn’t apply to Blake.

Whenever exhaustion overwhelmed him, he would sometimes place a book over his face and attempt to sleep, only to wake up just as fatigued as before.

Blake had never been particularly talkative.

And the words he did speak were usually blunt, straightforward remarks that hadn’t been filtered at all.

‘That’s why people misunderstand him so often.’

His cold and taciturn personality had mixed with his unstable upbringing to create the worst possible impression.

Ronald felt deeply sorry for him. If not for the curse, Blake could have lived a truly happy life.

‘Today won’t be easy either.’

He hadn’t managed to sleep at all, yet now he had to deal with Crown Prince Edwin on top of that.

Poor Young Master.

To make matters worse, neither the head of House Leblanc nor the adorable young master Eren were currently at the estate, making the atmosphere even heavier.

…Though, to be fair, the head of House Leblanc wasn’t exactly much different from Blake personality-wise anyway.

And even mischievous young Eren—the one person who occasionally made Blake smile—had left for a monastery yesterday to pray for the blessing of peaceful sleep.

‘He must be overwhelmed right after returning from war.’

Filled with pity as he watched Blake, Ronald suddenly noticed something sticking awkwardly up from the back of Blake’s head.

What was that?

‘…A bird nest?’

It looked like a magpie might swoop down at any moment and declare, “This is our home now!”

A messy little bird nest was sitting proudly on top of Blake’s head.

Rub rub.

Startled, Ronald forgot his dignity entirely and rubbed his eyes furiously with his sleeve.

But even after blinking repeatedly, it was undeniably still there.

Why in the world was there something like that on the Young Master’s head?

Had he fallen asleep awkwardly on the sofa without realizing his hair had gotten flattened?

But Blake almost never lay down long enough for his hair to end up like that.

It was an extremely suspicious hairstyle.

That bird nest looked exactly like the glorious evidence left behind by someone who had enjoyed an incredibly delicious night of sleep.
