Chapter 99.

One of his arms was in a cast. I was told he had surgery because of a broken bone, but the memory of it was completely gone.

So this is what it feels like not to remember. For a brief moment, I could understand the feelings Jay and Cha Yoon must have gone through.

A car driven by a drunk hit both Cha Yoon and me. But it wasn’t just a simple drunk driving accident. There were signs that someone had deliberately made the driver do it.

Cha Yoon had been in a similar traffic accident before. The speculation was that his older brother, Cha Seonghwan, was behind it.

Cha Seonghwan, who had a red notice issued by Interpol, was eventually forcibly repatriated and was reportedly awaiting trial. An attempted murder charge had been added, but it was still uncertain whether it would be accepted.

Cha Yoon lay on the bed next to me. He had been severely injured while protecting me and had already undergone two additional surgeries.

Occasionally, he regained consciousness and exchanged a few words with me, but most of the time, he was deeply asleep.

Today, I stared at his calm face for a long while. Unlike his usual lively expression, his pale and wan face looked utterly fragile. A single tear I shed fell from his well-defined nose.

“Cha Yoon.”

I quietly called his name. Only after almost losing him did I fully acknowledge my feelings. There were still emotions I hadn’t erased. I wasn’t free of worry, but above all, the fear of losing Cha Yoon forever was the strongest.

“Yoon…”

A sob escaped me. My startled feelings from the accident hadn’t yet settled. I took his limp hand first this time, holding it tightly, afraid of letting go, calling his name over and over.

After some time, Cha Yoon’s hand turned over and gripped mine firmly and slowly. Startled by the movement, I lifted my head and looked at him.

“Are you… okay?”

His empty, seemingly indifferent eyes stayed fixed on my tear-streaked face for a long time. He could fall asleep again at any moment. I felt desperate, like holding onto a candle with barely any wick left.

“Cha Yoon, I’ll call the doctor, the doctor.”

“…Sorry.”

His voice, painfully low, sank into the floor.

“…….”

“Sorry… for liking you.”

The first words he barely managed to speak after opening his eyes were an apology. He seemed to carry guilt as if loving me were a crime, murmuring it over and over. I bit my lip painfully.

“I… ended up loving you.”

“…It’s okay.”

That was all I could say in response.

“It’s okay if it’s you. You don’t need to be anyone else. Just… Cha Yoon, you can just be you.”

Finally, I accepted Cha Yoon fully in my heart. He slowly closed his eyes, then opened them again, as if he couldn’t quite believe me. He drew a deep breath, his dazed expression betraying how hard it was for him to take in the situation.

“You…”

As his sense of reality gradually returned, I tilted my head. Lowering my face, I let the tears clinging to my eyelashes fall onto Cha Yoon’s face. Our lips met. The warmth and comfort filled my heart completely.

***

One month later.

Cha Yoon was discharged safely. Despite Park Jonghoo’s objections, he moved all his belongings to my house. The scars on his arms, legs, and side from surgery were still visible, but he recovered his strength quickly. Almost unnaturally fast.

The contrast with his bedridden hospital state made him sometimes overwhelming.

Thump. Cha Yoon placed his pillow on my bed and smiled with satisfaction.

“I don’t like it.”

But his words contradicted his expression. As I looked around my room at all his belongings scattered everywhere, his large hand grabbed my chin, forcing my head toward him.

“Honestly, I thought you’d barely get a shabby one-room place.”

“Why badmouth the moment you get out?”

“Even if I hate it, at least living in the same house means I’ll keep seeing your face, and at night, our arms and legs will be tangled in that musty place.”

“Hmm. Want to go back to the hospital? Let’s check your brain.”

“But you seemed to live just fine without me. I was so twisted up and frustrated. You wouldn’t know. I cried so much alone while you slept.”

Cha Yoon, living in a palace far beyond anything comparable to my house, threw ridiculous tantrums. When I looked at him as if he were ridiculous, he said, “Just joking,” with a face that didn’t look joking at all.

“But isn’t the bed a bit wide, though?”

He swung himself onto the edge of the bed next to me, pressing his thigh gently against mine. He muttered nonsense about how the double bed I’d bought secondhand had far too much space.

“If you’re just going to keep complaining about this or that, then just leave.”

“…I said I was joking, joking.”

“Move.”

“It feels good to be in your place again after so long.”

As I tried to stand, Cha Yoon wrapped his arm around my waist. His eyes locked onto mine. Slowly, his gaze traced the lines of my face, and when our eyes met, that was the moment. Cha Yoon lowered his face and tugged at my lower lip.

His warm, soft lips brushed across my face, moving from my eyes down the bridge of my nose to my philtrum, tracing me as if in a caress. I let out a hot, shuddering breath.

“Ah… ugh, ticklish.”

“Do I get too childishly clingy?”

“Ha, ugh!”

“Shall we do something only adults can?”

With that, Cha Yoon’s lips traveled down to the nape of my neck. When he grazed my sensitive skin, an unbearable tingling shot down my spine.

I could see the outline of his manhood swelling against his thigh, becoming more obvious.

Cha Yoon pressed his body over mine, rubbing himself deliberately between my legs. As his lips closed over my ear, my head tilted back.

Excited, he hastily threw off his shirt and pressed himself against me again. Our lips locked and sought each other, the heat between us soaring.

“Hyung! Hyung!”

The sound of the door unlocking and slamming open thundered through the house. Without thinking, we separated.

I quickly tidied my disheveled appearance and brushed my hair back. Cha Yoon, flustered and unable to find his clothes, finally dove under the blanket.

“Hyung!”

At the worst possible timing, Suho opened the door. His cheeks were flushed from running. Ever since hearing that Cha Yoon, who he thought he’d never see again, would be coming back to our house, Suho had been marking the calendar and eagerly waiting for his discharge day.

Since Cha Yoon, whom he had been waiting for so eagerly, was coming back, he rushed home immediately after his academy class.

Without even unstrapping his backpack, Suho grabbed one of Cha Yoon’s protruding legs and tugged at it.

“Suho… Hyung is still in pain. He just had surgery.”

I hurriedly stopped Suho and helped him take off his backpack.

“…How much does it hurt?”

“He needs to rest for now. Later, when we have dinner, we’ll play together then.”

“…I guess I can’t help it.”

Disappointment was written all over Suho’s face, but he quickly perked up, comforted by the mere fact that Cha Yoon was home.

“Go wash your hands and change clothes.”

Suho energetically obeyed and went outside. Only then did Cha Yoon pull back the blanket he had been hiding under.

“Wow, if this were a one-room place, that would’ve been a disaster.”

He quickly retracted his words. Both of us were a mess. The moment our eyes met, I caught a fleeting glimpse of Jay in Cha Yoon. Instead of feeling confused, I simply smiled quietly. It was natural.

I would never forget Jay, and perceptive Cha Yoon already knew that. Even if Jay’s name slipped out, we would simply accept it.

The days of stubbornly forcing our own positions on each other were over. We were learning to understand each other, adjusting little by little.

Cha Yoon, noticing the meaning behind my smile, gripped my hand tightly. I could feel his hand trembling as though suppressing unease.

Outside, the snowfall had begun in earnest. The world was turning white, and soon the yard, previously filled with dry grass, would be blanketed in snow.

Thinking that on the weekend we could have breakfast together and make a snowman with Suho, I held Cha Yoon’s hand tightly.
